Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Singapore, 22 October 2025 – In celebration of Museums and Galleries Month, the Philippine Embassy in Singapore proudly highlights the upcoming solo exhibitions of two exceptional Filipino artists, Pacita Abad and Leslie de Chavez, whose works will be showcased in two of Singapore’s leading art spaces, STPI – Creative Workshop & Gallery and Gajah Gallery.

At STPI, the exhibition “Pacita Abad: Common Ground” (25 October – 13 December 2025) revisits the late artist’s creative journey during her 2003 residency at the same institution. Known for her pioneering trapunto paintings (textured canvases that combine painting, stitching, and textile art), Pacita Abad (1946–2004) is one of the Philippines’ most celebrated artists. The exhibition features rarely seen paper, print, and pulp works produced at STPI, which offers insight into her process of experimentation and innovation. Abad’s exuberant colors, multicultural influences, and deeply human themes, which are all reflected in her iconic painting on Alkaff Bridge at Robertson Quay, embody the essence of Filipino creativity that continues to inspire audiences around the world.

Gajah Gallery’s “Leslie de Chavez: A Kiss on the Ground (Halik sa Lupa)” (25 October – 30 November 2025) will present a powerful series of paintings and sculptures by Leslie de Chavez (b. 1978), an acclaimed contemporary artist from Manila. Through his masterful use of oil, gold leaf, and layered allegory, De Chavez’s works critically explore themes of colonial legacy, religion, and identity, and invites dialogue about how the past continues to shape the Filipino consciousness today.

These parallel exhibitions will highlight the breadth of Filipino artistic voices: from Abad’s radiant celebration of the global community to de Chavez’s thought-provoking engagement with history and faith. Together, they represent the vibrancy and complexity of the Philippine art scene, showing how Filipino artists continue to make a strong impact globally.

These direct collaborations between Filipino artists and Singapore galleries bring to life the very vision of the Embassy’s Art Trek program to foster meaningful partnerships that showcase Philippine contemporary art into Singapore. Through these exhibitions, the Philippine Embassy in Singapore reaffirms its continued commitment to promoting Philippine culture and supporting Filipino artists who continue to enrich cross-border dialogues.

Members of the Filipino community, art enthusiasts, and the general public are invited to visit both exhibitions and take pride in the growing recognition of Filipino artistry on the global stage. /END
