PRESS RELEASE | PR-282-2025
Question: How can we strengthen the resilience and adaptability of energy systems to meet the demands of the future?
The recent earthquakes and severe tropical storms that struck the Philippines have underscored the importance of having resilient and adaptive energy systems in place.
Guided by the national framework strategy on climate change, we continue to strengthen our capacity to respond, recover, and rebuild, anchoring our efforts on adaptation and supported by mitigation. The Philippine energy sector is advancing infrastructure resilience through the energy resilience policy guided by the Build Back Better (BBB) principle. This ensures that all energy facilities, both new and existing, are designed and operated to withstand stronger typhoons, earthquakes, and other climate related impacts, thereby ensuring energy supply, security, and protecting communities.
The Department of Energy of the Philippines has resiliency measures. Resiliency against all attacks on the Philippines by the climate. There has to be adaptation on the policies. There has to be adaptation to technology and I think manpower has to adapt to it.
So in order for us to be able to address the effects of climate change, we think we have to have the policies that catch up with the technology and we have to use the best technology there is. We have to strengthen our facilities, our infrastructure with better and stronger facilities. And lastly, we have to have a culture of resilience among Filipinos. So, it’s the three things that makes the Philippines resilient as far as energy is concerned. Thank you very much. / END
