PH EMBASSY’S ART TREK 16 FEATURES DIDIER ALARCON’S “IN YOUR EYES” AT FOOD TREK PARTNER RESTAURANT

The Philippine Embassy in Singapore commenced the sixteenth edition of Art Trek on 08 November 2024 through a unique fusion of its two principal initiatives—Art Trek and Food Trek—in collaboration with partners One East Gallery and Chez Suzette, a Filipino-owned French restaurant. The exhibition featured Didier Alarcon’s solo show entitled “In Your Eyes,” offering a deep personal glimpse into Alarcon’s poignant, introspective style as a tribute to his daughter.

The exhibition will run until 22 November 2024 at Chez Suzette, 5 Teck Lim Road, Singapore 088383, concluding with a special pop-up Christmas Bazaar featuring Singapore-based Filipino business owners.

EMBASSY CONCLUDES OVERSEAS VOTER REGISTRATION FOR 2025 ELECTIONS

The Philippine Embassy in Singapore successfully concluded on 30 September 2024 its 22-month long Overseas Voter (OV) registration for the 2025 national elections. A total of 7,199 Filipinos in the city-state applied for registration, certification, transfer and reactivation of their voter’s record during the period. The nearly two-year registration exercise, which began on 12 December 2022, aimed to provide qualified overseas Filipinos the opportunity to exercise their right to vote in the national elections.

HFSE STUDENTS IN SINGAPORE JOIN IN MANA MO’S CALL FOR RESPONSIBLE USE OF MARINE RESOURCES AND PROTECTION OF MARINE BIODIVERSITY

Primary and secondary students of Filipino-run school in Singapore, HFSE International School, joined the Philippines’ observance of the Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANA Mo) this September.

In conjunction with the school’s annual Science Week, and in support of the Philippine Embassy’s call to support the MANA Mo campaign, the HFSE International School hosted a series of activities to raise their students’ awareness on the importance of marine conservation and protection.

REMINDER AGAINST THIRD-COUNTRY RECRUITMENT SCHEMES

The Philippine Embassy continues to receive disturbing allegations of illegal recruitment emanating from Singapore for work in other countries.

In this regard, the Philippine Embassy reiterates its reminder to our kababayans in Singapore to exercise extreme caution when encountering advertisements, whether through online platforms (Facebook, WhatsApp) or by word of mouth, which promise higher-paying jobs in another country.

Under this scheme, recruiters target Overseas Filipino Workers already deployed in their destination countries, including Singapore, with employment opportunities in Canada, Poland, Germany, Malta, Mongolia, and other countries.

The 1734 Murillo Velarde Map also called the “Carta Hydrographica Y Chorographica De Las Yslas Filipinas Manila” is the oldest Philippine map which shows that Panatag Shoal or Scarborough Shoal was part of the Philippines’ territory. The map was instrumental in the country’s 2016 arbitration case over the dispute in the West Philippine Sea.

Philippine Cabinet Secretaries Visit Philippine Exhibit at Gardens by the Bay During Philippines-Singapore Business and Investment Summit

As part of the Philippines-Singapore Business and Investment Summit (PSBIS) 2024 held in Shangri-la Singapore last 19 September 2024, Philippine Cabinet Secretaries Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and Secretary Arsenio Balisacan of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) visited the Philippine exhibit at Gardens by the Bay. Personnel of the Philippine Embassy in Singapore and their families visited the Singapore Maritime Gallery and the Sustainable Singapore Gallery on 7 September 2024 as part of the Embassy’s month-long activities in observance of the Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANA Mo) this September.

As maritime nations, both the Philippines and Singapore share a deep connection to the sea, with their economies, cultures, and histories heavily shaped by their strategic positions and rich maritime resources.

The visit to the galleries was also organized in celebration of the 55th anniversary of Philippines-Singapore bilateral relations this year.

Get to know more about Singapore as a maritime city and its efforts towards achieving its sustainable agenda by 2030 by visiting these galleries.

PHILIPPINES-SINGAPORE RELATIONS ACHIEVE GREATER HEIGHTS DURING SINGAPORE PRESIDENT’S STATE VISIT

The Philippines and Singapore have further reinforced their strong bilateral ties with the signing of two new Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) focused on the deployment of Filipino healthcare workers and the development of carbon credits at the sidelines of the State Visit of Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam to the Philippines from 15 to 17 August 2024. These agreements build on the momentum established with the signing of an MOU on defense cooperation between the Department of National Defense (DND) and Singapore’s Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) in July 2024.

In their bilateral meeting held on 15 August 2024, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and President Tharman Shanmugaratnam expressed satisfaction with the progress of Philippine-Singapore bilateral relations. President Marcos said relations have undergone “immense transformation” since they were established over five decades ago, and are today strong and multi-faceted.

The Philippine Embassy in Singapore successfully launched yesterday (12 August 2024) the digital version of its book entitled “Making a Mark on The Little Red Dot: Trailblazing Filipino Entrepreneurs in Singapore.”

The eBook features the life-stories of twenty-five Filipinos who have not only excelled and succeeded as entrepreneurs in Singapore, but have literally blazed new trails in the field of entrepreneurship.

The eBook is one of the projects undertaken by the Philippine Embassy in Singapore to celebrate the 55th anniversary of Philippine-Singaporean diplomatic relations. It is not for sale, and it can be accessed by anyone for free by scanning on the QR code.

COMELEC, PHILIPPINE EMBASSY START PREPARATIONS FOR LANDMARK ONLINE VOTING IN SINGAPORE

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC), in partnership with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Philippine Embassy in Singapore, successfully conducted its third leg of information drive on internet voting at the Holiday Inn Singapore Orchard City Centre from 3 to 4 August 2024.

The two-day training session on the implementation of Online Voting and Canvassing Systems (OVCS) for the 2025 National Level Elections (NLE) forms part of the COMELEC’s comprehensive efforts to modernize and streamline overseas voting and maximize voting turnout. The training was led by all six (6) COMELEC commissioners, demonstrating the significance of this initiative.

232 FILIPINO WORKERS IN SINGAPORE RECEIVE TESDA CERTIFICATION

the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), the Philippines’ Technical Vocational Education and Training Authority successfully conducted the 2024 Overseas Assessment Program (OAP) from 27 to 28 July 2024 at the Bayanihan Center, CARE Academy, and AiMS Learning International Singapore. Of the 282 candidates assessed, 232 were certified and granted National Competency (NC) certificates, which they received immediately after the assessment.

PHILIPPINE MATH WIZARDS BAG TWO OVERALL WINS AT 2024 SINGAPORE INTERNATIONAL MATH OLYMPIAD CHALLENGE

Filipino students Nathan Y. Gohoc and Carsten Edmund S. Ang won as Overall Champion for Grade 4, and Overall First Runner-Up for Grade 7, respectively, during the tenth-year run of the Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge (SIMOC) on 21 July 2024.

SIMOC is a prestigious annual competition which gathers young math enthusiasts from around the world. This year’s SIMOC run has the highest participant turnout, with around 2,000 students from 32 countries gathering to challenge and expand their intellectual abilities.

PHILIPPINES AND SINGAPORE STRENGTHEN DEFENSE PARTNERSHIP, SIGN MOU ON DEFENSE COOPERATION

Philippine Secretary of National Defense Gilberto C. Teodoro, Jr. and Singapore Minister for Defence Dr. Ng Eng Hen signed the Philippines and Singapore Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Defense Cooperation this afternoon at the Shangri-La Hotel Singapore. The signing of the MOU on Defense Cooperation marked a significant milestone in strengthening the defense ties between the Philippines and Singapore.

Philippine Ambassador to Singapore H.E. Medardo G. Macaraig warmly welcomed the Ambassador-designate of Chile, H.E Tamara Villanueva, during a courtesy call of the latter at the Philippine Embassy today. Ambassador-designate Villanueva arrived in Singapore on 25 June 2024.

During the courtesy call, both Ambassadors discussed the longstanding and wide-ranging relations between the Philippines and Chile, spanning 78 years this year, which are deeply-rooted in their shared histories, economics and cultures. In 2026, PH and Chile will celebrate the 80th anniversary of their diplomatic relations since the formal establishment of ties on 04 July 1946.

PHILIPPINES PARTICIPATES IN ASEF BOARD OF GOVERNORS’ MEETING IN BALI, INDONESIA

Philippine Ambassador to Singapore and Philippine Governor to the Asia Europe Foundation (ASEF) Medardo G. Macaraig, joined fellow Governors of ASEF member countries in the 45th Asia-Europe Board of Governors’ Meeting (ASEFBoG45) held in Bali, Indonesia from 11 to 13 July 2024. He was accompanied in the meeting by First Secretary and Consul Joyleen E. Santos.

The ASEFBoG45 was hosted by the Government of Indonesia and co-chaired by Mr. Md. Rais Hasan Sarower, ASEF Governor from Bangladesh and Chair of the BoG, and Ambassador Toru Morikawa from Japan, who will soon conclude his term as ASEF Executive Director.

The Meeting in Bali also welcomed 14 new Governors to ASEF, discussed ASEF’s 3-year Strategy as well as updates and reports on the organization’s work on communications, human resources, finances and 2025 project proposals. It concluded with a renewed commitment from all participating countries to work together in addressing pressing global issues and fostering greater understanding and cooperation between Asia and Europe.

BEWARE OF INDIVIDUALS USING THE NAME OF THE PHILIPPINE EMBASSY IN RECRUITMENT SCHEME

It has come to our attention that certain individuals are using the name and logo of the Philippine Embassy, posing as Embassy employees, and/or alleging to have connections to the Embassy, in recruiting Filipinos and offering employment in Singapore.

The recruiters will then require payment of exorbitant application fees and later on will be unresponsive after receiving the payment from the interested applicants.

Please be informed that the Philippine Embassy is not involved in any kind of recruitment activities, nor in facilitating the hiring process for a third party, including conducting interviews and accepting employment application fees. The Embassy has also neither authorized any person nor availed of any services of third party recruitment agencies for Filipinos seeking employment in Singapore.

FILIPINO COMMUNITY IN SINGAPORE CELEBRATES KALAYAAN 2024 WITH FIESTA SA BAYAN NI JUAN

Hundreds of Filipinos living and working in Singapore, representing all ages and backgrounds, flocked to the Philippine Bayanihan Centre last Sunday, 23 June 2024, to celebrate the 126th Anniversary of Philippine Independence and Nationhood.

This is the first Filipino community-led Kalayaan celebration held after the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s event adopted the theme “Fiesta sa Bayan ni Juan: Pagdiriwang ng Pagkakaibigan” captures another objective to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the establishment of the Philippines-Singapore diplomatic ties. The National/Independence Day celebration relives the atmosphere of the Philippine fiesta.

FOOD TREK FEATURING FILIPINO CUISINE RESUMES IN SINGAPORE

the Philippine Embassy brings back Food Trek as part of the commemoration of the 126th anniversary of the Independence Day of the Philippines. Included in this year’s roster are Lechon Republic, Don Lechon, Iskina Cebu, Max’s Restaurant, Second Serving, Nanay’s Kitchen, Kuya’s Kusinang Pinoy, Primefood Marketing, Emperador Inc., and Avocadoria. These establishments served mouthwatering Filipino food favorites such as the well-loved lechon (roasted pork), pork and chicken sisig, chicharong bulaklak, halo-halo, taho, tapsilog, samalamig, leche flan, ube jam, kangkong chips by Kangkong King, Emperador brandy, and avocado ice cream during the Philippine Independence Day Diplomatic Reception last 14 June 2024 at the Grand Ballroom of ParkRoyal @ Beach Road.

FILIPINOS IN SINGAPORE PARTICIPATE IN 2024 SPECIAL PROFESSIONAL LICENSURE EXAMINATIONS

The Philippine Embassy in Singapore, through its Migrant Workers Office (MWO) and in coordination with the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), successfully conducted the 2024 Special Professional Licensure Examination (SPLE) on 16-18 June 2024, at the NTU@one-North Campus (ONEC) located at 11 Slim Barracks Rise,
Singapore. The three-day examinations, which covered fourteen (14) professions including nursing, architecture, engineering, teaching, and veterinary medicine, among others, received positive feedback from the Filipino community. This activity is important in enhancing the employability and competitiveness of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) through licensure examinations.
Of the four hundred forty-four (444) registered examinees, three hundred seventy-eight (378) or 85.14% took and completed the examinations.

NEW PERUVIAN AMBASSADOR CALLS ON AMBASSADOR MACARAIG

The new Ambassador of the Republic of Peru to Singapore, H.E Francisco Tenya Hasegawa, paid an introductory courtesy call on Ambassador Medardo G. Macaraig this morning at the Philippine Embassy.

During the meeting, Ambassador Macaraig and Ambassador Hasegawa discussed revitalizing ties between the Philippines and Peru in the areas of economic and people-to-people relations. They also had a candid exchange of views on key international and regional geopolitical and economic issues.

This year, the Philippines and Peru are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations on November 30, 1974.
