PRESS RELEASE | PR-274-2025

28 October 2025, Singapore – The Philippines highlights its commitment to sustainable energy futures at the 18th Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2025, Asia’s premier energy platform, taking place at the Marina Bay Sands from 27 to 31 October 2025. This year’s SIEW, themed “Envisioning Energy Tomorrow, Building Systems Today,” convenes global energy ministers, heads of international organizations, and industry experts for in-depth discussions of energy transition strategies, innovations, and collaboration opportunities.

Philippine Secretary of Energy, Sharon S. Garin, leads the Philippine delegation to the SIEW. As a featured panel member in two ministerial dialogues, she exchanged insights with her counterparts on topics such as regional grid interconnectivity and the adoption of next-generation technologies in ASEAN’s energy sector. She also provided an overview of the country’s current energy security policies, and its proactive advances in preparing nuclear energy programs, affirming regional cooperation as essential to achieving secure, affordable, and low-carbon energy transitions.

Today, at SIEW’s Singapore–International Energy Agency (IEA) Forum titled Smart, Connected, Secure: Shaping ASEAN’s Energy Security Landscape, Secretary Garin delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the crucial role of regional power grid interconnections in advancing ASEAN’s energy security and transition. Citing the Philippines as an example, she noted that the interconnection of the country’s three major islands through the Mindanao–Visayas Interconnection Project (MVIP) has demonstrated how greater connectivity enhances system reliability and flexibility. She also welcomed the launch of the ASEAN Power Grid Financing Initiative in partnership with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the World Bank, underscoring its importance in mobilizing innovative financing and harmonized policy action to accelerate large-scale cross-border energy projects across the region.

In support of this event and the Philippine delegation, the Philippine Embassy in Singapore, led by Ambassador Medardo G. Macaraig, also participated in SIEW’s core events, including the SIEW Summit and plenary sessions. (END)
