PRESS RELEASE | PR-047-2026
Singapore, 2 March 2026 — The Philippines, through the Lapu Lapu City (LLC) Tourism Performing Arts, proudly participated in the Chingay Parade 2026 held on 27 and 28 February 2026 at the F1 Pit Building in Singapore. Originating from Singapore’s tradition of celebrating multiculturalism through elaborate performances and colourful floats, Chingay has grown into one of the country’s biggest signature events that highlight artistic diversity, community spirit, and cultural exchange.
This year’s parade featured international contingents from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Japan, and the Philippines, alongside Singapore’s own performance segments. The program included an ASEAN Beat percussion showcase preceding the finale, an act symbolizing rhythmic unity across the region — a fitting moment as the Philippines chairs ASEAN this year.
The Philippine delegation, composed of 44 performers, presented a dynamic cultural showcase featuring Arnis de Abanico and LLC’s Pisi Festival during the two-night celebration.
Prior to their performance, Philippine Ambassador Medardo G. Macaraig met with the Philippine contingent, led by LLC Tourism Officer Mr. Garry Lao, in a brief meet‑and-greet session at the Chingay grounds. The Embassy once again extends its sincere thanks to Lapu‑Lapu City and all performers for their dedication, artistry, and for proudly representing the Philippines in Singapore.
The Philippines’ participation at Chingay is a timely end to the National Arts Month commemoration, as it further reinforced cultural ties between the Philippines, Singapore and its ASEAN neighbors, while proudly showcasing Filipino creativity on an international stage. This marked the first full Philippine delegation at Chingay since 2019.
Singapore and Malaysia are jointly applying for Chingay to be recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. /END
