PRESS RELEASE | PR-049-2026

SINGAPORE, 2 March 2026– The Philippine Embassy in Singapore, led by Ambassador Medardo G. Macaraig, participated in the Second Asia-Europe Friendship Walk, held under the theme: “Bridging Asia and Europe in the AI Age.”

The second iteration of the Asia-Europe Friendship Walk celebrates two significant milestones – Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Day on 1 March and ASEF’s 29th anniversary on 15 February 2026. This initiative aims to promote awareness of ASEF’s activities, celebrate the spirit of Asia-Europe cooperation, and underscore the Foundation’s dedication to a people-first approach, especially in a world increasingly influenced by digitalization and AI.

Approximately 80 representatives from Asian and European member states, including the ASEF Secretariat, took part in the Friendship Walk. The Philippine Embassy fielded a 23-member delegation composed of officers and personnel from various sections of the Embassy, including the Office of the Philippine Defense and Armed Forces Attaché.

The walk commenced at the DBS Foundation Esplanade Outdoor Theatre, and ended at the Marina Bay Sands.

ASEF functions as the people-to-people pillar of ASEM, complementing the latter’s political and economic tracks. In recognition of ASEF’s efforts in facilitating gender mainstreaming across its thematic areas, particularly in sustainable development, the Embassy delegation wore purple, the color symbolizing the international community and the Philippine’s advocacy towards gender equality and women empowerment.

For more information on ASEM and ASEF, the public may follow their official social media accounts on Facebook and Instagram, as well as the ASEMinfoboard (AIB). (END)
