PHILIPPINES JOINS MIGRANTS DAY CELEBRATION IN SINGAPORE

SINGAPORE, 18 December 2024 – The Philippine Embassy in Singapore, led by Ambassador Medardo G. Macaraig, together with its attached agencies, namely Migrant Workers Office-Singapore, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration-Singapore, SSS-Singapore and Pag-IBIG Singapore, joined the International Migrants Day Celebration in Singapore held on Sunday, 15 December 2024 at Jurong Lake Gardens. 

The celebration,  spearheaded by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and its partners, was attended by more than 10,000 migrant communities. Minister for Manpower Dr. Tan See Leng graced the event as the Guest of Honor. In his statement, Minister Tan  recognized the valuable contribution of migrants to Singapore and considered them as an integral part of Singapore’s progress.

Ambassador Macaraig conveys appreciation to all Filipino workers and is proud of the invaluable contribution of OFWs in Singapore who are working in various fields such as healthcare, hotel/F&B, information technology, education, among others. Singapore is a second home to more than 200, 000 Filipinos overseas.  In 2023, Singapore is the second highest source of OFW remittances with USD 2.36 billion. 

The Philippine Embassy booth was adorned with a cultural display of Filipiniana attire and a jeepney photo backdrop. The celebration was made extra special with the appearance of the Jollibee mascot, who is one of the new partners of the MOM for the festivity. END
