PHILIPPINES HIGHLIGHTS ADVANCES IN FOOD, ENERGY AND WATER MANAGEMENT AT SUSTAINABILITY IN ACTION CONFERENCE

SINGAPORE, 5 March 2025 – Philippine Ambassador to Singapore H.E. Medardo G. Macaraig participated in the Sustainability in Action Conference as one of the panel speakers  at the Ambassador’s Panel, “Perspectives on Practical Sustainability”. The Conference was organized by Jicara Media, in partnership with South African High Commission in Singapore on 28 February 2025 at the ParkRoyal Marina Bay.

 

Ambassador Macaraig was joined in the Panel by H. E. Charlotte Lobe, South African High Commissioner to Singapore and President of the African Women Leaders Network South Africa; H.E. Omayuli Francisca Kemis, Ambassador of Nigeria to Singapore and Mr. Rahul Joshi, Head of Content, Jicara Media (moderator). 

 

The panel discussion includes topics on 1) constraints on achieving sustainability; 2) ways on how government can partner with private sectors to achieve sustainable development; 3) bridging the gap between corporate sustainability initiates vis-a-vis actual need of the people; 4) successful innovative business models and emerging technologies that hold greater promise towards achieving sustainability goals; 5) funding; and 6) other policy gaps by governments. 

 

In his remarks, Ambassador Macaraig highlighted that while the Philippines faces numerous challenges,  the Philippines’ programs and frameworks have been progressing over time, with the government ensuring allocation of adequate financial resources to prioritize food, energy and water security. The Philippine government has mobilized its relevant agencies, such as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Energy (DOE) Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) and the local government units (LGUs) to ensure that critical areas which need to be addressed are given necessary attention to achieve long-term sustainability,  including  partnership with private sectors and through education, innovation and lifelong learning. 

 

The Sustainability in Action Conference brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators to address the pressing challenges and opportunities in the realms of food, energy, and water sustainability. END
