November 7, 2024, Singapore — Philippine Ambassador to Singapore, H.E. Medardo G. Macaraig led the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Philippine Pavilion at the 2024 Singapore FinTech Festival (SFF), one of the world’s largest and most influential fintech events, on 6 November. Ambassador Macaraig was joined by key Filipino figures in the fintech and government sectors, including Mr. Lito Villanueva, Founding Chairman of FinTech Alliance.ph; Mr. Joshua M. Bingcang, President and CEO of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA); Mr. Jose Querubin, Monetary Board Member from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP); and Department of Tourism Assistant Secretary for Tourism Digitalization and Resource Generation, Ms. Sharlene Zabala-Batin. The ceremony was also attended by key personnel from the Philippine Embassy in Singapore.
Organized by the Monetary Authority of Singapore, Elevandi, and Constellar in partnership with the Association of Banks in Singapore, SFF brings together global leaders in financial technology, public policy, and innovation. With a focus this year on “Applications of AI and Quantum Computing in Financial Services,” SFF 2024 welcomes thousands of global participants to the Singapore Expo from 6 to 8 November, fostering collaboration across sectors.
The Philippine Pavilion, under the theme “Bagong Pilipinas,” showcases the country’s commitment to digital transformation and highlights the current administration’s agenda to establish the Philippines as a digital hub for foreign investments. In line with this vision, FinTech Alliance.Ph leads the pavilion’s efforts, representing over 100 corporate members responsible for more than 95 percent of the country’s digital financial transactions. Distinguished members of the Alliance include major industry players like GCash, Maya, Home Credit, and Grab.
Ambassador Macaraig introduced President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. whose message was played via recorded video at the Pavilion. In his speech, the President highlighted the transformative impact of digital finance on Filipinos, emphasizing its role in fostering financial inclusion, secure transactions, and economic growth. He stressed the ongoing development of digital services and technology to reach all Filipinos and tap into international markets. He also expressed the Philippines’ ambition to become a competitive global player in fintech by inviting investors to the Philippines.
FinTech Alliance.Ph’s robust industry presence and its close collaboration with government agencies underscore the “Bagong Pilipinas” theme, driving forward the current administration’s vision of comprehensive sectoral transformation through digital and economic advancement.
