PRESS RELEASE | PR-105-2026
Singapore, 10 April 2026 — The Philippine Embassy in Singapore marked Filipino Food Month (Buwan ng Kalutong Pilipino) with an evening celebration at Feast Asia, the flagship restaurant of Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy on 09 April. Coinciding with Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor), the event brought together members of the diplomatic corps, cultural partners, members of the Filipino community, and friends of the Philippines for a festive showcase of Filipino cuisine and culture.
Now in its third consecutive year, the Embassy’s collaboration with the hotel continues to highlight the richness and diversity of Filipino culinary traditions, as well as the deep culinary interconnections shared across ASEAN. For this year’s celebration, Feast Asia transformed its interiors into a festive Filipino setting, with colorful décor and a nostalgic sari-sari store-inspired installation that served as a centerpiece of the evening.
Guests enjoyed a fully Filipino buffet curated by Singapore-based Filipino chef Mr. Edward Lim Esmero in collaboration with Feast Asia’s resident chef, featuring beloved classics such as Lechon, Sisig, Kare-kare, and Chicken Pastil, alongside Filipino street food favorites. Popular desserts including Halo-halo and Buko Pandan rounded out the culinary spread.
The evening also featured cultural performances that highlighted the breadth of Philippine artistic expression – from traditional epic to modern pop. Guests first watched the traditional Singkil dance performed by 20 secondary students from HFSE International School, followed by a contemporary performance by Filipino P-pop group 1st.One, who is in Singapore for its first international concert.
The celebration also featured booths by Singapore-based Filipino entrepreneurs showcasing Philippine food products and crafts.
In his remarks, Philippine Ambassador Medardo G. Macaraig noted how Filipino cuisine reflects centuries of cultural exchange across Southeast Asia. “Filipino cuisine carries influences from our ASEAN neighbors, just as our own flavors appear in kitchens across the region,” he said. He also announced an upcoming digital publication, “Flavors of Diplomacy: A Philippine Food Guide to the Lion City,” an eBook compendium of over 95 food establishments in Singapore, which highlights the growing presence of Filipino cuisine across Singapore.
The celebration formed part of the Philippines’ global observance of Filipino Food Month, held every April to promote Filipino cuisine and strengthen appreciation for the country’s diverse culinary heritage.
The Filipino food buffet at Feast Asia at Grand Mercure Singapore Roxy will continue to be available to the public until 26 April 2026. For more details, please visit https://www.feastasia.sg/. /END
