PRESS RELEASE | PR-177-2026
09 June 2026, Singapore – The Philippine Embassy in Singapore officially launched Flavors of Diplomacy: The Philippine Food Guide in the Lion City on 08 June 2026 during the Embassy’s flag-raising ceremony commemorating the start of the Philippine Independence week to mark the 128th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence.
The publication is a digital food guide developed by the Philippine Embassy in Singapore to showcase the growing presence of Filipino cuisine, food entrepreneurs, restaurants, cafés, and culinary communities across Singapore. The guide highlights how food serves as a powerful platform for cultural diplomacy, people-to-people exchanges, and the strengthening of ties between the Philippines and Singapore.
The launch formed part of the Embassy’s Independence Month activities and was attended by representatives of the Filipino community from various sectors and professions in Singapore. Held at the newly reconstructed Chancery, the event also marked the first flag-raising ceremony conducted at the Embassy’s new premises. The Embassy recently completed the redevelopment of its chancery building, which was formally inaugurated in October 2025.
In his message, Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Medardo G. Macaraig underscored the role of food in fostering cultural understanding and creating meaningful connections among communities. He noted that Filipino food continues to gain recognition in Singapore through the efforts of Filipino chefs, restaurateurs, entrepreneurs, and food advocates who proudly share Philippine flavors with local and international audiences.
The guide features a diverse range of Filipino-owned and Filipino-inspired food establishments in Singapore, from traditional eateries and specialty restaurants to cafés, bakeries, food retailers, and homegrown culinary enterprises. It also includes stories behind the businesses, signature dishes, and the individuals who continue to promote Filipino cuisine beyond Philippine shores.
Flavors of Diplomacy builds on the Embassy’s longstanding efforts to promote Philippine culinary heritage through initiatives such as Filipino Food Month celebrations, food festivals, culinary collaborations, and restaurant partnerships in Singapore. These programs have contributed to increasing appreciation for Filipino cuisine and its role in strengthening cultural exchanges between the two countries.
