PRESS RELEASE | PR-091-2026
SINGAPORE, 30 March 2026 – To conclude its observance of the 2026 National Women’s Month, and in observance of the Women’s Disability Day today, the Philippine Embassy in Singapore highlights the gender-responsive and inclusive features of its new chancery, underscoring its commitment to providing safe, accessible, and dignified spaces for all members of the public.
These facilities were deliberately integrated into the planning and construction of the new chancery, in line with the Philippines’ advocacy for gender equality and inclusive public service. This reflects a proactive approach to ensuring that the Embassy’s physical spaces are responsive to the diverse needs of its clients, particularly women, families, and persons with disabilities.
At the core of these features is a dedicated family area, which includes a private and comfortable room for parents who are nursing children. This space ensures privacy, safety, and convenience for women with infants, reflecting the Embassy’s recognition of the unique needs of women and caregivers accessing consular services.
The chancery is likewise equipped with gender-sensitive restroom facilities, including toilets furnished with diaper changing stations and child seats, enabling parents and guardians to attend to young children with ease and dignity.
In parallel, the Embassy has ensured that the new chancery is accessible to persons with disabilities and senior citizens. The building is fitted with ramps, elevators, and braille signages, as well as barrier-free access points, to facilitate seamless mobility and navigation for individuals who are differently abled and with reduced mobility. These features are in line with universal design principles and reinforce the Embassy’s commitment to inclusivity and equal access to government services.
Chargé d’Affaires (CDA) and Consul General Joyleen E. Santos, emphasized that these facilities are part of a broader institutional effort to mainstream gender and development (GAD) considerations in the Embassy’s operations. “Our chancery is more than just a physical space, it is a reflection of our values. By ensuring that our facilities are responsive to the needs of women, families, and persons with disabilities, we affirm our commitment to inclusive and people-centered service,” CDA Santos said.
The Embassy’s initiative also supports the Philippine Government’s broader gender and development agenda, which promotes the integration of gender perspectives in all aspects of governance, including infrastructure and service delivery. (END)
