Singapore, 5 August 2026 – The Philippine Embassy in Singapore officially launched its month-long celebration of Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa by welcoming a group of Filipino homeschool families to the newly-redeveloped Chancery on 3 August 2026 for a special edition of its “Tuloy Po Kayo” tour. The activity gave young Filipinos in Singapore an opportunity to reconnect with their language, history, and cultural heritage.
This year’s Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa carries the theme “Wikang Filipino at AI: Kasangkapan sa Pananaliksik at Tulay sa Yaman ng Impormasyon.” The theme recognizes the complementary role of the Filipino language and artificial intelligence (AI) in advancing research, knowledge creation, and the responsible use of emerging technologies. The observance of Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa every August is pursuant to Proclamation No. 1041, signed in 1997.
The delegation, composed of homeschooled Filipino children aged 6 to 15 years old and their parents, initiated the visit as part of their efforts to expose the children to Philippine culture while living overseas.
The program began with the Embassy’s flag-raising ceremony, followed by the “Tuloy Po Kayo” guided tour, where participants learned about the history and functions of the Philippine Embassy, as well as significant Philippine symbols and cultural displays housed within the Chancery.
As part of the Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa celebration, the children also visited Sentro Rizal Singapore, where they attended a brief introductory lecture and workshop on Baybayin, the Philippines’ pre-colonial writing system. The session introduced the young participants to the historical significance of Baybayin and encouraged a deeper appreciation of the country’s rich linguistic and cultural heritage.
The visit also provided an opportunity for the participants to experience the newly-opened Sentro Rizal Library, which was inaugurated on 16 July 2026 by First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos during her visit to Singapore. The library serves as a dedicated space for promoting Philippine literature, language, history, arts, and culture, and forms part of the Embassy’s continuing efforts to strengthen cultural diplomacy and connect overseas Filipinos with their heritage.
The Philippine Embassy regularly organizes cultural visits under its “Tuloy Po Kayo” program to bring the Embassy closer to the Filipino community and foster a stronger appreciation of Philippine history, culture, and identity among Filipinos living overseas. The Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa edition of the program underscored the importance of preserving the Filipino language and heritage, particularly among the younger generation growing up abroad.
