MANILA, 23 June 2026 – The Philippine Embassy in Singapore was honored with a Special Commendation Award by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) during the 128th DFA Founding Anniversary Conferment of Awards held today in Pasay City, Philippines. The award was conferred by Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro, recognizing the Embassy’s successful redevelopment of its Chancery at 20 Nassim Road.  

Second Secretary and Consul Atty. Joy Anne B. Lai, focal person for the chancery redevelopment project, and recipient of  Gawad Mabini  with the rank of Dakilang Kasugo (Commander),  personally received the Special Commendation award on behalf of the  Embassy.

Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Medardo G. Macaraig expressed deep pride in the recognition, saying:

“This recognition is exceptionally meaningful to us, as the Chancery represents more than a physical space. It stands as a symbol of our enduring commitment to service, community, and the strong ties between the Philippines and Singapore. It inspires us to continue striving for excellence in serving our kababayans and strengthening the Philippines’ image overseas. Most importantly, this project is the realization of a shared dream by Ambassadors who came before me, especially my predecessor Ambassador Joseph Yap, whose vision and dedication laid the foundation for this achievement.”

The Special Commendation underscores the Embassy’s commitment to creating a dignified, welcoming, and functional environment that reflects both Philippine heritage and aspirations for the future. The redevelopment project transformed the Chancery from a residential bungalow into a modern diplomatic space that embodies service, community, and the enduring ties between the Philippines and Singapore.

On behalf of the women and men of the Philippine Embassy, Ambassador Macaraig expresses heartfelt gratitude to Secretary Lazaro, former Undersecretary for Policy Ma. Hellen B. De La Vega for her nomination of the Philippine Embassy, and the entire DFA, noting that the recognition is a testament to the dedication, collaboration, and hard work of all those involved.

The conferment ceremony formed part of the DFA’s anniversary celebration, which honored outstanding contributions of Philippine Foreign Service Posts worldwide in advancing diplomacy, promoting national interests, and fostering international goodwill.  /END
