PRESS RELEASE | PR-319-2025
SINGAPORE, 15 December 2025 – The Philippine Embassy in Singapore concluded its observance of the 2025 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) with a training on Singapore Laws on Women’s Rights and Welfare on 12 December 2025. The training forms part of the Embassy’s continuing efforts to strengthen assistance to overseas Filipino women and ensure that frontline personnel are equipped with updated knowledge of host-country legal protections.
The session was facilitated by Atty. Richard Siaw, Partner at RS Solomon LLC, and an experienced litigator specializing in family and criminal law in Singapore. Atty. Siaw, whose practice includes extensive work on protection orders, family violence matters, and cross-border legal issues, provided Embassy personnel with a comprehensive discussion on the forms of violence against women in Singapore – including domestic and familial violence, sexual offenses, online and technology-facilitated abuse, workplace harassment, and trafficking in persons.
Atty. Siaw detailed the key statutes governing the protection of women in Singapore, such as the Women’s Charter, the Protection from Harassment Act, and relevant provisions of the Penal Code.
Embassy personnel were further briefed on the procedures for obtaining Personal Protection Orders, available counselling and support measures, and practical legal remedies accessible to survivors. The session likewise addressed the challenges commonly encountered by individuals seeking assistance, as well as the avenues for coordination between the Embassy and Singaporean authorities in safeguarding the welfare of Filipino women.
The Embassy remains committed to enhancing its gender-responsive services and expanding its partnerships with local stakeholders in support of survivors of gender-based violence. (END)
