PRESS RELEASE | PR-157-2026
18 May 2026, Singapore – The Philippine Embassy in Singapore, in partnership with The Orchard Hotel Singapore, launched the 2026 edition of “Manila Meets Madrid” at The Orchard Café on 18 May 2026, in celebration of the 57th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Singapore, and National Heritage Month. The event brought together representatives from the Singapore Government, business sector, diplomatic community, media and key opinion leaders, alongside members of the Filipino community in Singapore.
In his remarks, Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Medardo G. Macaraig emphasized the growing breadth of Philippines-Singapore cooperation across trade, investments, innovation, security and regional stability, noting Singapore’s continued role as a top economic partner. “For 57 years, the Philippines and Singapore have built a partnership built on a rock-solid foundation of shared values, mutual trust, and a unified vision for a peaceful, prosperous region,” Ambassador Macaraig said.
He also underscored Singapore’s continued importance as one of the Philippines’ most valued partners within ASEAN, particularly as the Philippines chairs ASEAN this year amid evolving global challenges. The Ambassador likewise cited the recent completion of the new Philippine Embassy chancery in Singapore, made possible with the support of the Singapore Government, as a renewed symbol of the enduring friendship between the two countries.
A short video highlighting key milestones in 57 years of Philippines–Singapore bilateral relations was also shown following the Ambassador’s remarks.
The program also featured a musical performance by Ms. Iveca Ignacio, a Filipina nurse based in Singapore, whose presence symbolized contributions and talents of Filipinos working across various sectors in Singapore.
This year’s “Manila Meets Madrid” showcase features an expanded Filipino culinary offering developed in collaboration with visiting chefs from The Heritage Hotel Manila and the culinary team of The Orchard Hotel Singapore. The buffet highlights classic Filipino dishes, regional specialties, and desserts, alongside a number of Spanish and international selections.
To complement the culinary showcase, the venue was adorned with traditional kiping decor, inspired by the Pahiyas Festival recently celebrated in the Philippines.
“Manila Meets Madrid” runs from 1 May to 30 June 2026 at The Orchard Café, The Orchard Hotel Singapore. /END
