SINGAPORE, 30 December 2025 – Ambassador Medardo Macaraig led the officers and staff of the Philippine Embassy in Singapore, together with its attached agencies, in commemorating the 129th anniversary of the martyrdom of Philippine national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal. The observance began with a flag-raising ceremony followed with a wreath-laying ceremony at the bust of Dr. Rizal in the new Sentro Rizal, located within the new Philippine Chancery along Nassim Road.

A commissioned painting of Dr. José P. Rizal, donated by Singapore-based Filipino artist Miel Prudencio Ma, now graces the wall across Sentro Rizal. The artwork portrays Rizal beside his loyal dog as the foundation of the house structure, with portraits in the window-frame illuminated by the symbolic lampara from the “Kwento ng Gamo-Gamo” (Story of the Moth), a beacon of enlightenment and resilience. Depicted as an ophthalmologist and a child deep in study, Rizal is framed by the warm glow of the lamp, a timeless emblem of wisdom and the pursuit of knowledge.

This year’s theme, “Rizal: Sa Pagbangon ng mga Mamamayan, Aral at Diwa Mo ang Tunay na Gabay (Rizal: As Our People Rise, Your Teachings and Wisdom Guide Our Way) underscores the enduring relevance of Rizal’s ideals in inspiring unity, patriotism and national progress
