PRESS RELEASE | PR-261-2025

Singapore, 13 October 2025 – The Philippine Embassy in Singapore joined the Filipino community in celebrating Filipino heritage and craftsmanship at “HABI 2025: Cultural Weaving Traditions through Fashion Show”, held on Saturday, 11 October 2025 at the Singapore Recreational Club (SRC) Esplanade Grand Ballroom.

Organized by the Filipino Ladies Group Singapore (FLAGS), the event showcased traditional Philippine weaving reimagined through contemporary fashion, featuring creations by Monina’s Creations, House of Musa, and Maison Inabel. The collections transformed indigenous textiles into modern silhouettes that aptly reflect the creativity and evolving artistry of Filipino designers. Volunteer models, including members of the community as well as Embassy personnel and their children, brought the fashion segments to life, and showcased the collaboration, generosity, and community spirit that underpin Filipino events in Singapore.

More than a cultural celebration, HABI 2025 also served a charitable purpose, with proceeds benefiting both Philippine and Singapore-based institutions. The beneficiaries include the House of Hope, a children’s cancer foundation based in Davao, Philippines; the Woodbridge Hospital Charity Fund (WHCF); and Raising Awareness and Inspiring Social Equity (RAISE) Ltd., which supports underprivileged children in Singapore.

In his keynote remarks, Ambassador Medardo G. Macaraig commended FLAGS for organizing the event in celebration of Philippine Indigenous Peoples Month, calling it “a tribute to the richness of our indigenous textiles and the communities that keep these living traditions alive.” He also expressed solidarity with those affected by the recent earthquake and typhoons in the Philippines, encouraging the community to extend help in their own ways.

Founded in 1999, FLAG-Singapore is a nonprofit women’s association registered with the Registry of Societies in Singapore. Guided by the values of “Reach, Relevance, and Resilience”, the group has organized numerous cultural and charitable initiatives, including the Maria Clara and Ibarra Ball in 2023.

The Embassy congratulates FLAG Singapore and all those behind HABI 2025 for another successful initiative that highlights Filipino creativity, unity, and pride in cultural heritage. /END
