Philippine and Saudi Ambassadors Affirm Continued Dialogue Amid Global Uncertainties During Courtesy Call

SINGAPORE, 15 April 2026 – Philippine Ambassador to Singapore H.E. Medardo G. Macaraig received H.E. Mohammad Abdullah S Alghamdi, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Singapore, on a courtesy call at the Philippine Embassy today, 15 April 2026. 

 

During the meeting, both Ambassadors exchanged views on regional and international developments, including the ongoing US-Iran conflict and its impact on global energy markets. Ambassador Alghamdi underscored the importance of strengthening dialogue between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and ASEAN partners, noting the Kingdom’s key role in the global economy as a leading member of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). He emphasized that continued engagement is essential to support stability and energy security amid prevailing uncertainties.

 

Both sides likewise reaffirmed their shared commitment to further deepen bilateral relations and explore opportunities for enhanced collaboration in areas of mutual interest.

 

The meeting also highlighted the longstanding and friendly ties between the Philippines and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Philippines recognized the establishment of the Kingdom on 15 November 1946, with formal diplomatic relations established on 24 October 1969. The first Philippine Mission in the Kingdom was opened in Jeddah on 23 December 1973, marking the start of sustained bilateral engagement. (END)
