Philippine and Australian Heads of Mission Affirm Partnership During Courtesy Call

SINGAPORE, 26 May 2026 – Philippine Ambassador to Singapore H.E. Medardo G. Macaraig received the new Australian High Commissioner to Singapore, Ms. Robyn Mudie, in a courtesy call on Friday, 22 May 2026, during which both sides reaffirmed the longstanding and strategic relations between the Philippines and Australia.

Ambassador Macaraig and High Commissioner Mudie exchanged views on regional and international developments, including the evolving geopolitical environment in the Indo-Pacific, developments within ASEAN, and other matters of mutual concern. The discussion likewise underscored the importance of continued cooperation among like-minded partners in promoting a rules-based regional order, regional stability, and sustainable economic growth.

Ambassador Macaraig also conveyed appreciation for Australia’s longstanding engagement with ASEAN as a Comprehensive Strategic Partner and a High Contracting Party to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia. Both sides expressed confidence that the Philippines and Australia would continue to deepen bilateral cooperation and work closely within ASEAN-led platforms in support of regional peace, resilience, and prosperity.

The courtesy call took place as the Philippines and Australia commemorate the 80th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year reflecting eight decades of growing partnership, close cooperation, and enduring people-to-people ties.

High Commissioner Mudie, who presented her credentials to President Tharman Shanmugaratnam on 19 May 2026,  is a senior Australian foreign service officer who previously served as Ambassador to Vietnam and High Commissioner to Sri Lanka and Maldives, among other senior diplomatic postings. (END).
