PRESS RELEASE | PR-139-2024

14 November 2024, Singapore – The Philippine Embassy in Singapore commenced the sixteenth edition of Art Trek on 08 November 2024 through a unique fusion of its two principal initiatives—Art Trek and Food Trek—in collaboration with partners One East Gallery and Chez Suzette, a Filipino-owned French restaurant. The exhibition featured Didier Alarcon’s solo show entitled “In Your Eyes,” offering a deep personal glimpse into Alarcon’s poignant, introspective style as a tribute to his daughter.

Didier Alarcon, part of the celebrated Alarcon brothers, is known for his atmospheric paintings that explore themes of solitude, memory, and time. Using muted tones and soft lighting, his works create a surreal, introspective atmosphere, blending realism and surrealism to evoke a sense of isolation and contemplation. His delicate brushwork and smooth gradients invite viewers to reflect on universal emotions like nostalgia and introspection.

In Your Eyes is a visually compelling and resonant collection that centers around the theme of the eyes, which serve as windows into the soul of the subjects. The exhibition reflects the artist’s personal journey as a father to a visually impaired daughter, with the eyes in his portraits symbolizing the central emotional theme of connection and introspection.

This exhibition also showcases Alarcon’s diverse artistic influences, ranging from pop culture references to Filipino comics and Disney, set against vibrant scenes, flowers, and Singapore icons. Known for his atmospheric, dreamlike painting style, Alarcon’s first international solo exhibition also marks his debut visit to Singapore, accompanied by his wife and daughter.

Since its inception in 2007, Art Trek has become a platform for showcasing Filipino artists in Singapore highlighting deep-rooted cultural and artistic ties between the two countries. This year’s edition of Art Trek is especially significant as it commemorates the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

The exhibition will run until 22 November 2024 at Chez Suzette, 5 Teck Lim Road, Singapore 088383, concluding with a special pop-up Christmas Bazaar featuring Singapore-based Filipino business owners. – END
