SINGAPORE, 5 December 2024 – The Philippine Embassy proudly launched the printed version of its book entitled “Making a Mark on The Little Red Dot: Trailblazing Filipino Entrepreneurs in Singapore” on 4 December 2024 at the Ambassador’s Official Residence. The launch was attended by the book’s subjects, writers and other key Embassy personnel who were instrumental in publishing the book.
The book features the life-stories of twenty-five Filipinos who have not only excelled and succeeded as entrepreneurs in Singapore, but have literally blazed new trails in the field of entrepreneurship, including in the business, trade, industry, green and sustainability, social, culinary, health and lifestyle, cultural and education, as well as digital and online fields.
Besides casting the spotlight on these trailblazing Filipino entrepreneurs, the book also highlights the literary talents of the Singapore-based Filipino creative writers who participated in the project as contributing writers.
In his remarks, Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Medardo Macaraig shared that the book aligns with the Embassy’s goal and commitment to encourage financial literacy and economic independence among Filipinos abroad. He added that he received a lot of requests for a second edition of the book project. Thus, he encouraged Filipino writers and publishers to step-up and support the realization of book two of this project.
For his part, Deputy Chief of Mission and Consul General Emmanuel R. Fernandez highlighted the power of books to literally outlive their authors, and to continue being relevant for many years to come. He said that this is especially true of books that contain stories, real or fictional, since stories play an indispensable role in everyone’s life. He then said that the life-stories of the trailblazing Filipino entrepreneurs in Singapore which are featured in the book will surely continue to instruct, encourage and inspire other Filipinos to pursue their own path to excellence for a long, long time.
On 12 August 2024, the Embassy virtually launched the digital version of the book which was live-streamed on Facebook and was attended by officials of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and its foreign service posts, as well as by members of the diplomatic corps, the business community and the Filipino Community in Singapore.
The book is part of the Embassy’s yearlong celebration of the 55th anniversary of Philippines-Singapore diplomatic relations, which highlights the enduring friendship and mutual cooperation between the two nations. The project underscores the significant role of Filipinos in strengthening our bilateral relationship through their entrepreneurial contributions.
The Philippine Embassy encourages kababayans to read the book, start their own entrepreneurial journeys and be inspired by the stories of Filipinos who have taken up the challenge and made their mark as entrepreneurs.
