PRESS RELEASE | PR-050-2026
SINGAPORE, 02 March 2026 – The Embassy of the Philippines in Singapore formally kicked off the 2026 National Women’s Month Celebration during its first Monday flag-raising ceremony, aligning with the nationwide observance led by the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW). The ceremony, facilitated by an all-women Embassy team, was led by Ambassador Medardo G. Macaraig.
This year’s celebration continues to be anchored on the overarching theme, “WE for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society,” which underscores collective responsibility in advancing women’s rights and ensuring that no one is left behind. The 2026 subtheme, “Lead like Babaylans, Filipinas!”, draws inspiration from the Philippines’ pre-colonial babaylans – revered women leaders, healers, and community stewards – symbolizing the strength, wisdom, and agency of Filipino women throughout history.
In his remarks, Ambassador Medardo G. Macaraig emphasized that gender equality is both a national priority and a shared societal obligation. He underscored the Embassy’s continued commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace and community environment where women are empowered to lead, innovate, and participate fully in decision-making processes.
The Ambassador likewise noted that discourse on women’s rights must remain sustained amid ongoing global conflicts and humanitarian crises, where women and children are often among the most vulnerable. He stressed that promoting gender equality is inseparable from advancing peace, human security, and inclusive development – both domestically and in the international arena.
The ceremony, attended by Embassy officers, staff and select members of the Filipino community in Singapore, marked the beginning of a month-long series of activities aimed at celebrating women’s leadership, promoting gender and development (GAD) initiatives, and engaging the Filipino community in Singapore in meaningful dialogue and participation.
Observed every March, National Women’s Month reaffirms the Philippines’ enduring commitment to gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls, in pursuit of a just and inclusive society.
The Filipino community in Singapore are invited to participate in the Embassy’s line-up of activities for the month-long celebration. The calendar of activities may be viewed here. (END)
