Peruvian Ambassador Pays Courtesy Call on PH Ambassador

SINGAPORE, 10 June 2026 – Philippine Ambassador to Singapore H.E. Medardo G. Macaraig received today the courtesy call by H.E. Fernando Julio Antonio Quirós Campos, Ambassador of the Republic of Peru to Singapore, at the Philippine Embassy.

During the call, the two Ambassadors reaffirmed the longstanding friendship between the Philippines and Peru, noting the historical, cultural, and people-to-people ties that have linked the two countries, including exchanges associated with the Manila Galleon trade. Ambassador Macaraig noted the recent reopening of the Peruvian Embassy in Manila, a testament to the renewed momentum in the Philippines-Peru bilateral relations.

Ambassador Quirós highlighted Peru’s growing engagement with Asia and ASEAN, as well as opportunities arising from Peru’s trade networks, regional partnerships, and role as a bridge between South America and the Asia-Pacific.

Ambassador Macaraig and Ambassador Quirós exchanged views on ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including trade and investment, agriculture, sustainable energy, disaster preparedness, and cultural exchanges. They also recognized the complementary strengths of the Philippine and Peruvian economies and the potential to pursue practical cooperation initiatives that support inclusive growth.

Both diplomats likewise shared insights on disaster risk reduction and resilience, recognizing that both the Philippines and Peru are located along the Pacific Ring of Fire and face similar natural hazard risks. They noted the value of sharing experiences, best practices, and technical knowledge to support preparedness and resilience.

Ambassador Quirós previously served as a non-resident Ambassador of Peru to the Philippines from 2017 to 2022. (END)
