PRESS RELEASE | PR-164-2025
The Philippine Embassy in Singapore conveys, with profound sadness, the passing of former Philippine Ambassador to Singapore, Francisco L. Benedicto on 2 July 2025. He was 86 years old.
Ambassador Benedicto hailed from the province of Cebu, Philippines. An esteemed public figure and philanthropist in the Philippines, he was known for his accomplishments and contributions in the fields of government service, academia, and business.
He was the fourth Philippine Ambassador to Singapore. He presented his credentials to Singapore President Wee Kim Wee in June 1986. His assignment in Singapore from 1986 to 1993 was his first ambassadorial posting, which was followed by his postings as Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, Brazil, Canada, India, and China.
Philippines-Singapore bilateral relations advanced during his tenure in Singapore, characterized by leaders-level exchange of visits, including the State Visit to Singapore of President Corazon C. Aquino in 1986 and President Fidel V. Ramos in 1993, as well as the official visits to the Philippines of Singaporean Prime Ministers Lee Kuan Yew and Goh Chok Tong.
As Ambassador to Singapore, he also served as Dean of the Diplomatic and Consular Corps from 1989 to 1993, a role that reflects his respected stature among foreign diplomats.
The Philippine Embassy expresses its deepest condolences to the family of Ambassador Benedicto. His legacy, contributions, dedication, and service to the people and the country will be long-remembered.
Maraming salamat, Ambassador Benedicto!
