NEW RUSSIAN AMBASSADOR PAYS COURTESY CALL ON PH AMBASSADOR

(Singapore, 23 September 2025) H.E. Dr. Sergey Pavlovich Ganzha, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Singapore, paid a courtesy call on Ambassador Medardo G. Macaraig this morning at the Philippine Embassy.

During the call, Ambassador Macaraig conveyed his intent to build on the warm rapport established with the former Russian Ambassador to Singapore. He also shared updates on the new Philippine Chancery in Singapore, noting its proximity to the Russian Embassy, making the Philippine and Russian missions neighbors once again along Nassim Road. Furthermore, he also affirmed the vital role of the large Filipino community in Singapore.  

Ambassador Ganzha, in turn, shared his views on the strategic importance of the Philippines as the upcoming ASEAN Chair and its central role in regional affairs. He also expressed appreciation for Manila as a vibrant capital city.

The Russian Ambassador is a career diplomat and has served in the diplomatic service since 1982. He presented his credentials to Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam on 9 September 2025. 

The Philippines and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) formally established diplomatic relations in 1976. After the dissolution of the USSR in December 1991, the Russian Federation assumed the USSR’s responsibilities and obligations arising from bilateral agreements with the Philippines, formally recognizing the Russian Federation on 28 December 1991. /END
