SINGAPORE, 24 March 2026- Philippine Ambassador to Singapore H.E. Medardo G. Macaraig received a courtesy call from the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Singapore, H.E. Abdulaziz Bin Ahmed Al-Malki Al Jehani, at the Philippine Embassy today, 24 March 2026.
Ambassador Abdulaziz assumed his post in January 2026 following the presentation of his credentials to President Tharman Shanmugaratnam. He brings with him extensive experience in Qatar’s civil and foreign service, including posts in the Ministry of Energy and prior deployments in European and UN missions.
The two Ambassadors exchanged views on regional and international developments, including the ongoing situation in the Middle East. Both underscored the urgency of de-escalation and expressed hope that all parties would return to the negotiating table to de-escalate tensions, with humanitarian considerations as the foremost priority.
Ambassador Abdulaziz reaffirmed Qatar’s role in advancing mediation and supporting peace efforts in the region. Ambassador Macaraig, for his part, conveyed appreciation to the Qatari Government for its assistance in the repatriation of Filipinos affected by the conflict.
Ambassador Macaraig welcomed his Qatari counterpart to Singapore and underscored the Embassy’s readiness to work closely with him in further strengthening Philippines–Qatar relations.
The Philippines and Qatar enjoy long standing relations, underpinned by strong people-to-people ties and sustained cooperation across various sectors. The two countries will celebrate their 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations on 05 May 2026. (END)
