SINGAPORE, 16 September 2024 – As part of its observance of the Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANA Mo) this September, the Philippine Embassy in Singapore organized a Seafood Fiesta at the Ambassador’s residence to highlight the importance of protecting the Philippine waters, including the West Philippines Sea (WPS), an area very rich of marine biodiversity and an important source of livelihood and food for Filipinos.
This year’s MANA Mo theme “Pamana ng Karagatan: Para sa Kinabukasan, Ating Ingatan” is a very timely and relevant to the Philippines as a maritime and archipelagic country composed of more than 7,000 islands with more than 14,000 coastal communities highly dependent on marine resources for living. As a maritime nation, it is imperative for every Filipino to carry out initiatives and be informed on how to protect the country’s maritime interests and resources from various maritime threats.
The Seafood Fiesta, which included a variety of marine aquatic delicacies such as fish, shrimp, crab, and other seafoods, aims to teach the youth on the importance of the protection, conservation, the responsible and sustainable use of our marine resources including our coral reefs.
Relatedly, every third week of September, the Philippines also observes the Fish Conservation Week. (END).
