SINGAPORE, 02 April 2024 –  Ambassador Sengkeo Pouangpadith, who is concluding his tour of duty as Lao PDR’s envoy to Singapore, pays a farewell call on Philippine Ambassador Medardo G. Macaraig. During the call, both Ambassadors recognized the robust and friendly ties between the Philippines and Lao PDR, which also extended to the engagements between the countries’ diplomatic posts in the city-state.

Ambassador Pouangpadith also took the opportunity to express his appreciation for the Philippines’ contributions to Lao PDR’s nation-building efforts, particularly through people-to-people exchanges. He highlighted the role of Filipino institutions and professionals in enhancing Laos’ development, citing the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in Los Baños, which has been instrumental in training Lao students in agricultural sciences. He likewise recognized the significant contribution of Filipino educators in shaping the educational landscape in Laos.

Ambassador Macaraig, in turn, reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to further deepening its ties with Lao PDR, by expanding on existing and exploring other avenues of cooperation. (END)
