HIGHLIGHTS OF UGNAYAN (25 MAY 2025)

Below are the highlights of the Ugnayan:

  • Over 50 leaders and representatives of various Filipino community organizations in Singapore gathered at the third Ugnayan: Bagong Pilipinas Town Hall Meeting for the year on Sunday, 25 May 2025.

 

  • Ambassador Medardo G. Macaraig expressed appreciation to the Filipino community for their active participation in the historic first online overseas voting.

 

  • The recent overseas election resulted in a 32.38% voter turnout, higher than the overseas voting for the midterm elections in 2019. 

 

  • The Public Diplomacy section highlighted good practices that contributed to the successful and efficient conduct of the month-long process including extensive information campaign, tailored communication strategy, increased community engagement, whole-of-government approach, close coordination with Singapore authorities and most importantly, the support and participation of the FilCom. 

 

  • The Chancery at Nassim Road, the largest construction project of the Department of Foreign Affairs in recent years, is set to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2025. The new Chancery will feature enhanced consular facilities and function spaces. 

 

  • Newly-arrived Assistant Labor Attaché Agnes L. Pabalan of the Migrant Workers Office @(MWO)-Singapore introduced herself to the community and outlined improvements in the contract verification process, which seek to reduce processing time and improve accessibility for OFWs in Singapore.

 

  • Updates from @OWWA and @Pag-IBIG were also shared, particularly regarding membership services, financial programs, and welfare initiatives available to Filipinos in the city-state.

  • The Cultural and Filipino Community Relations section provided a rundown of upcoming cultural programs and Filipino community-led activities: 
  • 5 May – 30 June – Filipino-Spanish Buffet @“ Manila Meets Madrid” at the Orchard Hotel
  • 25 May, 2:00 PM – Philippine Independence Day Mass at the Catholic Church of St. Bernadette 
  • 6-15 June – @“Symphony of Island Flavors” at the Grand Mercure Roxy
  • 8 June, 5:30 AM  – BNG Run
  • 8 June – @Philippine Independence Day Mass at the Queen of Peace Church (TBC)
  • 15 June, 2:00 PM – Victory Family Centre, Philippine Independence Day Celebration
  • 29 June – @Isang Bangkang Malaya, @Filipino Dragons Singapore (Passion Wave @Bedok Reservoir)
  • 29 June, 5:00 PM – @HALE Live in Singapore (timbre+ One North)
  • 20 July, 5:00 PM – TJ Monterde: “Sarili Nating Mundo” (Arena@Expo)
  • 17 August – @Fiesta 2025: Fiesta ng Pamilyang Pilipino
  • 29 August, 5:00 PM – SB19 “Simula at Wakas” (Arena@Expo)
