SINGAPORE, 1 October 2024 – Primary and secondary students of Filipino-run school in Singapore, HFSE International School, joined the Philippines’ observance of the Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANA Mo) this September.
In conjunction with the school’s annual Science Week, and in support of the Philippine Embassy’s call to support the MANA Mo campaign, the HFSE International School hosted a series of activities to raise their students’ awareness on the importance of marine conservation and protection.
HFSE held a film showing showcasing the rich and diverse marine biodiversity of the Philippines, the sustainable use of marine resources, including videos of harmful activities that threaten the marine ecosystem such as overfishing, pollution and habitat destruction. After the film showing, the students engaged in a discussion and reflection sharing their thoughts on ways to contribute to the preservation and protection of our ocean, including coastal clean-up and stopping dynamite and illegal fishing.
Aside from film showing, HFSE students will engage in slogan making and poem writing contests.
The Philippine Embassy thanks HFSE for participating in the national observance of MANA Mo every September by virtue of Presidential Proclamation 316, signed by President Duterte on 14 September 2017. This year’s theme is “Pamana ng Karagatan: Para sa Kinabukasan, Ating Ingatan”.
“Education is the best weapon we can provide our children. Let us continue to teach them and encourage them to use their voice for a better and sustainable tomorrow.” Ambassador Medardo Macaraig said. (END).
