SINGAPORE, 20 June 2024 –  The Philippine Embassy in Singapore, through its Migrant Workers Office (MWO) and in coordination with the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), successfully conducted the 2024 Special Professional Licensure Examination (SPLE) on 16-18 June 2024, at the NTU@one-North Campus (ONEC) located at 11 Slim Barracks Rise, Singapore.

The three-day examinations, which covered fourteen (14) professions including nursing, architecture, engineering, teaching, and veterinary medicine, among others, received positive feedback from the Filipino community. This activity is important in enhancing the employability and competitiveness of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) through licensure examinations.

Of the four hundred forty-four (444) registered examinees, three hundred seventy-eight (378) or 85.14% took and completed the examinations.

Simultaneous SPLEs were also conducted over the weekend in Middle East countries, namely, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar. Singapore was the only testing site outside of the Middle East.

During the courtesy call of the PRC representatives on Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Medardo G. Macaraig on 11 June 2024, the latter thanked the Commission for supporting the need for overseas Filipinos to take professional examinations and acquire licenses to advance their professional development. Ambassador Macaraig also assured the PRC of the Embassy’s support for all the Commission’s activities that provide Filipino nationals abroad with opportunities to advance their professional and employment status. He also encouraged them to offer additional PRC services that are needed by Filipinos in the city-state.

The SPLE also received overwhelming support from the Filipino community, with many members expressing their intention to volunteer as examination personnel. The Bayanihan spirit of Filipinos contributed significantly to the success of the SPLE. Ambassador Macaraig thanked the volunteers, acknowledging that their efforts and services were instrumental in the event’s success.

The conduct of the SPLE was held pursuant to Executive Order No. 835, s. 2009, which directs the Professional Regulation Commission and other concerned government agencies to conduct yearly Special Professional Licensure Board Examinations (SPLBE) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and other Middle Eastern countries for the benefit of qualified Overseas Filipino Workers.
