SINGAPORE 18 July 2024 – The Philippine Embassy in Singapore congratulates the entire Philippine team and junior golfers who won the Putra Cup title in the 61st Southeast Asian Golf Team Championship held at the Seletar Golf Club in Singapore from 8-12 July 2024.
The golf event, open to members of the ASEAN Golf Federation, consists of four tournaments, namely, Putra Cup, initiated by Malaysia’s former Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman in 1961; Singapore’s Lion City Cup introduced in 2004 to recognize the region’s best boys golfers under 16; Santi Cup which Thailand started in 2009 to feature the top women amateurs; and Indonesia’s Kartini Cup first played in 2013 to highlight junior girls under 16.
The Philippines competed with other contenders from Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore
Deputy Chief of Mission and Consul General Dr. Emmanuel R. Fernandez attended the Opening Ceremony of the Southeast Asian Amateur Golf Team Championships 2024 on 8 July 2024, upon the invitation of the Singapore Golf Association (SGA). DCM Fernandez, who was then acting as Charge d’ Affaires of the Philippine Embassy, was pleased that the Philippines, particularly the Filipino youth, are actively participating in sports competitions.
