PRESS RELEASE | PR-227-2025
SINGAPORE, 04 September 2025 – The Ambassador-designate of the Republic of Estonia to Singapore, H.E. Veikko Kala, paid a courtesy call on Philippine Ambassador to Singapore, H.E. Medardo G. Macaraig, at the Embassy of the Philippines.
The two envoys exchanged views on regional and international developments and reaffirmed the importance of upholding a rules-based international order. They noted that such principles are indispensable in safeguarding the interests of small and medium-sized states, including the Philippines and Estonia.
Ambassador Macaraig conveyed the Philippines’ interest in further strengthening cooperation with Estonia, particularly in the area of digital innovation. He commended Estonia’s globally recognized advances in e-governance and the digitalization of government services, which, if adapted to the Philippine context, could significantly enhance accessibility and efficiency in public service delivery.
Diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Estonia were formally established on 19 December 1991. Since then, both countries have worked to foster cooperation in various fields, including information and communications technology, governance, and people-to-people exchanges, as well as collaboration in multilateral fora.
