SINGAPORE, 15 August 2025 – Philippine Embassy officials visited the National University of Singapore (NUS) on Wednesday, 13 August 2025, to show support for Barangay NUS, a Filipino Cultural Club led by undergraduate Filipino students participating in the university’s annual Student Life Fair (SLF) at the start of the university year.
Held from 13-14 August, the SLF is the biggest university fair showcasing the diverse array of student clubs, committees, and societies available to the NUS student body which allows students to explore over 200 Co-curricular activities (CCA) and groups including performing arts, cultural groups, and sports promoting inclusion, engagement and leadership across campus. This year’s fair was held on the same week as the global observance of International Youth Day, celebrated annually on 12 August.
The delegation was led by First Secretary and Consul Joyleen E. Santos of the Public Diplomacy Section and Second Secretary and Consul Renee Gayle M. Chua, Head of the Cultural and Filipino Community Relations Section. They were joined by Cultural Officer Rosellie L. Bantay and Filipino Community Relations Assistant Catherine E. Castillo, in meeting with both outgoing and incoming officers of Barangay NUS to commend their efforts in promoting Filipino culture and camaraderie within the university.
During the fair, Embassy officials visited the Barangay NUS booth which featured traditional Filipino games and snacks, warmly offered to visitors of all backgrounds.The display offered a glimpse into Filipino heritage, drawing interest and appreciation from the NUS community.
The Philippine Embassy continues to encourage Filipino students and faculty across Singapore’s universities, colleges and tertiary institutions, to actively champion Philippine culture and identity among diverse student populations. /END
