EMBASSY, DMW REAFFIRM SUPPORT FOR FILIPINO WORKERS IN SINGAPORE

SINGAPORE, 23 July 2025 – This afternoon, Philippine Embassy Chargé d’Affaires (CDA) Joyleen E. Santos welcomed officials of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) led by Hon. Felicitas Q. Bay, Undersecretary for Foreign Employment and Welfare Services for Asia-Pacific, Americas and European Affairs. She was joined by Officer-in-Charge Assistant Secretary Atty. Julyn S. Ambito-Fermin and Atty. Joseph Ador A. Ramos, Overseas Employment Adjudicator from the NCR Adjudication Bureau, as well as MWO-Singapore Labor Attaché Haney Lynn G. Siclot and OWWA-Singapore Welfare Officer Florencio “Jay” D. Teves III.

The DMW officials are in Singapore from 22 to 25 July for a series of official engagements aimed to advance the welfare of Filipino workers in Singapore. This includes the conduct of a Forum with the Association of Employment Agencies-Singapore (AEAS) and the 2nd Capability Enhancement Training for Welfare Desk Officers of Foreign Recruitment Agencies (WEDOCET), organized by the Migrant Workers Office (MWO)-Singapore. While in Singapore, Undersecretary Bay will also meet with officials from the Ministry of Manpower (MOM).

During the call, officials from both the Philippine Embassy and DMW reaffirmed their shared commitment to enhancing the protection and welfare of Filipino workers in Singapore. CDA Santos also assured Undersecretary Bay of the Embassy’s continued full support for the DMW and the MWO-Singapore,  emphasizing its cooperation in implementing programs and initiatives toward this shared objective. They also discussed strengthening the Philippines’ bilateral relations with Singapore and other ASEAN member states on migrant worker-related concerns. 

 

As a token of appreciation, CDA Santos presented Undersecretary Bay with the book “Making a Mark on the Little Red Dot: Trailblazing Filipino Entrepreneurs in Singapore”, published by the Embassy to commemorate the 55th Anniversary of Philippines-Singapore diplomatic relations in 2024. 

 

Joining CDA Santos in the call were Second Secretary and Consul Atty. Joy Anne B. Lai, Head of the Embassy’s Consular and Assistance-to-Nationals Section, Embassy Administrative Officer Gloria Jean V. Castaño-Zafra. END.
