PRESS RELEASE
PR-118-2024
02 October 2024, Singapore – The Philippine Embassy in Singapore successfully concluded on 30 September 2024 its 22-month long Overseas Voter (OV) registration for the 2025 national elections. A total of 7,199 Filipinos in the city-state applied for registration, certification, transfer and reactivation of their voter’s record during the period. The nearly two-year registration exercise, which began on 12 December 2022, aimed to provide qualified overseas Filipinos the opportunity to exercise their right to vote in the national elections.
For the 2025 elections, registered overseas voters will have the chance to experience the first-ever Overseas Internet Voting system, which would make it easier for Filipinos in Singapore to cast their votes. Newly registered voters, along with those who registered in previous exercises and remain active, contribute to a total of nearly 70,000 registered overseas voters in Singapore.
The Embassy opened special Sunday voter registration during the months of August and September to accommodate more Filipinos who wish to register, but are unable to visit the Embassy during weekdays.
Philippine Ambassador to Singapore, Medardo G. Macaraig, expressed gratitude to all those who took part in the registration exercise. “We extend our heartfelt thanks to the thousands of kababayans who registered and reaffirmed their dedication to contributing to the nation’s future. I also thank the Filipino community leaders and volunteers who took the time to encourage our citizens, and actually assisted during our special weekend operations. I look forward to everyone’s participation in the 2025 elections, and an even bigger turnout from that of the previous one.”
In the last Overseas Voter registration drive held in 2021, over 25,000 Filipinos were registered to vote for the 2022 presidential elections. Their voter records remain active.
The Embassy encourages all kababayans in Singapore to stay informed by following the Embassy’s official Facebook page, Instagram page, visiting the Philippine Embassy official website, and subscribing to its WhatsApp Channel for the latest announcements and updates on the 2025 elections. (END)
