SINGAPORE, 7 August 2026 – During the Embassy’s extended consular Friday operations on 31 July 2026, Second Secretary and Consul Teddy Pavon administered the reacquisition of Philippine citizenship of our kababayan, Jonas Galileo Belocura, who holds Canadian citizenship.

Mr.  Belocura is the 13th kababayan to reacquire Filipino citizenship and pledged the Oath of Allegiance to the Philippine flag at the new Philippine Chancery in 20 Nassim Road. This occasion also marked Consul Pavon’s first time to officiate a reacquisition ceremony.

Did you know? Under the Citizenship Retention and Reacquisition Act of 2003 also known as Republic Act 9225, natural-born Filipinos who acquired foreign citizenship may retain or reacquire Philippine citizenship without renouncing their foreign nationality.

In Singapore, however, dual citizenships are not allowed. Children born from a Filipino parent and a Singaporean parent must choose their citizenship by the age of 21 years old.
