PHILIPPINES-SINGAPORE RELATIONS ACHIEVE GREATER HEIGHTS DURING SINGAPORE PRESIDENT’S STATE VISIT

The Philippines and Singapore have further reinforced their strong bilateral ties with the signing of two new Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) focused on the deployment of Filipino healthcare workers and the development of carbon credits at the sidelines of the State Visit of Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam to the Philippines from 15 to 17 August 2024. These agreements build on the momentum established with the signing of an MOU on defense cooperation between the Department of National Defense (DND) and Singapore’s Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) in July 2024.

In their bilateral meeting held on 15 August 2024, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and President Tharman Shanmugaratnam expressed satisfaction with the progress of Philippine-Singapore bilateral relations. President Marcos said relations have undergone “immense transformation” since they were established over five decades ago, and are today strong and multi-faceted.

PHILIPPINES, SINGAPORE INK MOU ON RECRUITMENT OF FILIPINO HEALTHCARE WORKERS

The Philippines and Singapore inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) of the Republic of the Philippines and the Ministry of Health (MOH) of the Republic of Singapore on the recruitment of Filipino healthcare workers.The MOU was signed by Secretary for Migrant Workers Hans Leo Cacdac and Minister for Health Ong Ye Kung. President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam witnessed the exchange of the signed MOU, which demonstrates the desire of both countries to provide a formal mechanism to govern and regulate the deployment of Filipino healthcare workers to Singapore, as well as provide support for their eventual reintegration to the Philippine economy and society.

PHILIPPINE EMBASSY LAUNCHES PIONEERING eBOOK ON TRAILBLAZING FILIPINO ENTREPRENEURS IN SINGAPORE

The Philippine Embassy in Singapore successfully launched yesterday (12 August 2024) the digital version of its book entitled “Making a Mark on The Little Red Dot: Trailblazing Filipino Entrepreneurs in Singapore.”

The eBook features the life-stories of twenty-five Filipinos who have not only excelled and succeeded as entrepreneurs in Singapore, but have literally blazed new trails in the field of entrepreneurship.

The eBook is one of the projects undertaken by the Philippine Embassy in Singapore to celebrate the 55th anniversary of Philippine-Singaporean diplomatic relations. It is not for sale, and it can be accessed by anyone for free by scanning on the QR code.

COMELEC, PHILIPPINE EMBASSY START PREPARATIONS FOR LANDMARK ONLINE VOTING IN SINGAPORE

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC), in partnership with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Philippine Embassy in Singapore, successfully conducted its third leg of information drive on internet voting at the Holiday Inn Singapore Orchard City Centre from 3 to 4 August 2024.

The two-day training session on the implementation of Online Voting and Canvassing Systems (OVCS) for the 2025 National Level Elections (NLE) forms part of the COMELEC’s comprehensive efforts to modernize and streamline overseas voting and maximize voting turnout. The training was led by all six (6) COMELEC commissioners, demonstrating the significance of this initiative.

FILIPINO ATHLETE CARLOS YULO WINS OLYMPIC GOLD IN MEN’S FLOOR EXERCISE

Filipino athlete Carlos Edriel Yulo wins gold in the Artistic Gymnastics Men’s Floor Exercise in the 2024 Paris Olympics yesterday, 3 August 2024. He is the first Filipino and Southeast Asian to win a historic gold medal in gymnastics in this year’s Olympics. Carlos Yulo is the first male and second Filipino athlete to win a gold medal in the Olympics. In 2021, Filipino weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz, won a gold medal in the women’s 55-kilogram division in Tokyo Olympics– the Philippines’ first ever gold medal in Summer Olympics.

232 FILIPINO WORKERS IN SINGAPORE RECEIVE TESDA CERTIFICATION

the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), the Philippines’ Technical Vocational Education and Training Authority successfully conducted the 2024 Overseas Assessment Program (OAP) from 27 to 28 July 2024 at the Bayanihan Center, CARE Academy, and AiMS Learning International Singapore. Of the 282 candidates assessed, 232 were certified and granted National Competency (NC) certificates, which they received immediately after the assessment.
