FILIPINO COMMUNITY IN SINGAPORE CELEBRATES KALAYAAN 2024 WITH FIESTA SA BAYAN NI JUAN

Hundreds of Filipinos living and working in Singapore, representing all ages and backgrounds, flocked to the Philippine Bayanihan Centre last Sunday, 23 June 2024, to celebrate the 126th Anniversary of Philippine Independence and Nationhood.

This is the first Filipino community-led Kalayaan celebration held after the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s event adopted the theme “Fiesta sa Bayan ni Juan: Pagdiriwang ng Pagkakaibigan” captures another objective to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the establishment of the Philippines-Singapore diplomatic ties. The National/Independence Day celebration relives the atmosphere of the Philippine fiesta.

FOOD TREK FEATURING FILIPINO CUISINE RESUMES IN SINGAPORE

the Philippine Embassy brings back Food Trek as part of the commemoration of the 126th anniversary of the Independence Day of the Philippines. Included in this year’s roster are Lechon Republic, Don Lechon, Iskina Cebu, Max’s Restaurant, Second Serving, Nanay’s Kitchen, Kuya’s Kusinang Pinoy, Primefood Marketing, Emperador Inc., and Avocadoria. These establishments served mouthwatering Filipino food favorites such as the well-loved lechon (roasted pork), pork and chicken sisig, chicharong bulaklak, halo-halo, taho, tapsilog, samalamig, leche flan, ube jam, kangkong chips by Kangkong King, Emperador brandy, and avocado ice cream during the Philippine Independence Day Diplomatic Reception last 14 June 2024 at the Grand Ballroom of ParkRoyal @ Beach Road.

FILIPINOS IN SINGAPORE PARTICIPATE IN 2024 SPECIAL PROFESSIONAL LICENSURE EXAMINATIONS

The Philippine Embassy in Singapore, through its Migrant Workers Office (MWO) and in coordination with the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), successfully conducted the 2024 Special Professional Licensure Examination (SPLE) on 16-18 June 2024, at the NTU@one-North Campus (ONEC) located at 11 Slim Barracks Rise,
Singapore. The three-day examinations, which covered fourteen (14) professions including nursing, architecture, engineering, teaching, and veterinary medicine, among others, received positive feedback from the Filipino community. This activity is important in enhancing the employability and competitiveness of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) through licensure examinations.
Of the four hundred forty-four (444) registered examinees, three hundred seventy-eight (378) or 85.14% took and completed the examinations.

DFA STATEMENT ON THE RORE INCIDENT ON 17 JUNE 2024

The Department of Foreign Affairs expresses grave concern over the incident that occurred in the Ayungin Shoal during a humanitarian mission to BRP Sierra Madre on 17 June 2024. The DFA denounces the illegal and aggressive actions of Chinese authorities that resulted in personnel injury and vessel damage.

In line with the Philippines’ commitment to pursue peace, the Department has been exerting efforts to rebuild a conducive environment for dialogue and consultation with China on the South China Sea.

This cannot be achieved if China’s words do not match their actions on the waters. We expect China to act sincerely and responsibly, and refrain from behavior that puts to risk the safety of personnel and vessels.

We reiterate our call for China to adhere to international law, especially UNCLOS and the 2016 Arbitral Award, and respect the Philippines’ sovereignty, sovereign rights and jurisdiction in our own waters.

STATEMENT ON THE APULIA G7 LEADERS’ COMMUNIQUÉ OF 14 JUNE 2024

The Philippines welcomes the G7 Leaders Communiqué issued in Apulia, Italy on 14 June 2024 which reconfirms the G7’s commitment to upholding a rules-based international order and the rule of law in all parts of the world, including the South China Sea. The Philippines shares the G7’s vision of a stable and secure Indo-Pacific region, and stands firm against any actions that undermine global prosperity, international security, peace and stability.

PHILIPPINES MAKES OFFICIAL SUBMISSION TO U.N. ON ENTITLEMENT TO AN EXTENDED CONTINENTAL SHELF IN THE WEST PHILIPPINE SEA

The Philippines, through the Philippine Mission to the United Nations in New York, submitted information to the United Nations (UN) Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf (CLCS) to register the country’s entitlement to an extended continental shelf (ECS) in the West Palawan Region in the West Philippine Sea/South China Sea on 15 June 2024.

In celebration of the 126th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence and Nationhood, the Philippine Embassy in Singapore hosted a Diplomatic Reception at the ParkRoyal Hotel on Beach Road on Friday, 14 June 2024. Singapore Minister for Health Mr. Ong Ye Kung served as the Guest of Honor, together with two Members of Parliament (MP), Mr. Liang Eng Wah for Bukit Panjang and Mr. Murali Pillai SC for Bukit Batok.

NEW PERUVIAN AMBASSADOR CALLS ON AMBASSADOR MACARAIG

The new Ambassador of the Republic of Peru to Singapore, H.E Francisco Tenya Hasegawa, paid an introductory courtesy call on Ambassador Medardo G. Macaraig this morning at the Philippine Embassy.

During the meeting, Ambassador Macaraig and Ambassador Hasegawa discussed revitalizing ties between the Philippines and Peru in the areas of economic and people-to-people relations. They also had a candid exchange of views on key international and regional geopolitical and economic issues.

This year, the Philippines and Peru are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations on November 30, 1974.

PRESIDENT MARCOS JR. DELIVERS HISTORIC KEYNOTE ADDRESS AT SHANGRI-LA DIALOGUE ASIA SECURITY SUMMIT

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. made history on Friday, 31 May 2023, as the first Philippine leader who delivered the keynote address to open the 21st edition of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore focusing on global defense and security affairs. On the issues on maritime threats and insecurity in the Philippines, particularly in the West Philippine Sea (WPS), President Marcos stood firm during the summit in protecting the country’s sovereign rights, adhering to the rules-based international order and to the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
