PH EMBASSY IN SINGAPORE CONCLUDES VOTER REGISTRATION, RECORDS OVER 27,000 REGISTRANTS

15 October 2021, Singapore. The Philippine Embassy in Singapore concluded on 14 October 2021 its 22-month long overseas voter registration for the 2022 Philippine national elections. An estimated 27,000  Filipinos in the city state applied for registration, certification, transfer and reactivation of their voter’s record during the period, which ran from 16 December 2019 to 14 October 2021.

The Philippine Embassy officially closed the OV registration in Singapore at 10:00 PM on 14 October 2021, serving a total of 1,072 overseas on the final day of voter registration alone.

To accommodate more Filipinos to participate in the 2022 National Elections, the Philippine Embassy opened Sunday voter registration services in August 2021, with Embassy personnel rendering overtime voter registration work both on Saturdays and Sundays in September. The Embassy also opened on weekends during the extended registration period from 1 to 14 October 2021.

Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Joseph del Mar Yap expressed his appreciation to the Filipino community in Singapore for their full support for the registration process that resulted in a very high turnout, which is one of the biggest in the Asia-Pacific region. He also thanked the officers and staff of the Philippine Embassy for their tireless efforts and dedicated service, working on weekends and extending hours to accommodate as many  voter applications as possible.

The election period for overseas voters is expected to run from 10 April to 9 May 2022.
