Posted on Friday, 6 July 2018

In line with the Department of Foreign Affairs’ objective to promote the competency of Foreign Service personnel in working with clients in distress, the Philippine Embassy held a training workshop entitled “Community Clinical Support Services (CCSS): Adopting a Trauma-Informed Approach in Dealing with Clients in Distress for Embassy Personnel” on 30 June 2018.

The training workshop was facilitated by Misses Michelle Soliano-Lew and Valerie Lim, counselors and psychotherapists of Montfort Care, an organization that also provides services to Family Service Centers of Singapore’s Ministry on Social and Family Development. The training aimed to enhance the Embassy personnel’s soft skills and provide necessary knowledge in adopting trauma-informed approached when engaging with clients in distress to prevent re-traumatization. Among the topics explored were types of soft skills to use, attending and listening skills, verbal and non-verbal languages, and self-care.

The Embassy personnel also engaged in various exercises such as role-playing and self-reflections to put into practice the skills they have learned. This activity is also part of the Embassy’s Gender and Development Project for the year.
