Transit Visa Requirements of the Republic of South Africa

Posted on Wednesday, 7 July 2010

South Africa’s Ministry of Home Affairs has announced that with effect from 1 June 2010 all non-visa exempt foreigners who proceed to South Africa for transiting purposes en route to neighboring countries i.e. the Kingdom of Lesotho, the Kingdom of Swaziland, the Republic of Namibia, the Republic of Zimbabwe, the Republic of Botswana and the Republic of Mozambique, are required to have a valid transit visa.

The various ports of entry of the Republic of South Africa have exercised a certain amount of leniency with regards to the implementation of the transit visa requirement during the month of June 2010.  However, from 1 July 2010 the transit visa requirement shall be fully enforced.
